  • What’s the best way to use a ChoraLine rehearsal recording?
ChoraLine recordings are most effective when used in conjunction with your vocal score. You can purchase scores at www.choraline.com Use a pencil to mark your voice part in your score. When playing the rehearsal recording for the first time, it’s a good idea to listen all the way through and follow along in your score without singing. This gives you an idea of how the recording is structured and starts to build the relationship between the notes you’re seeing and hearing. You’ll also hear the narrator’s guidance, which is there to give you confidence. We recommend you don’t attempt the whole work straight away. We’ve divided it into achievable sections and the narrator calls out cues so you won’t get lost. When you’re ready to sing, try to match the pitch of the lead instrument or singer while following along in your score. You may wish to start by singing vowel sounds first before adding the words. The lead instrument that represents your voice part is distinct from the backing track. You can exaggerate this by using headphones and listening through the right ear only. Take your time and focus on difficult sections using the playback controls. You can pause, skip forward or back through tracks, loop a track, or drag the red dot to commence playback from a specific part of the track. You can also slow the music down by tapping the cog icon in the top right of the screen and choosing either ‘0.9x’ or ‘0.75x’ playback speed. Repeat each section until it feels natural, then start linking them together. Eventually you’ll be able to sing the work perfectly from start to finish. Well done! If using headphones, you may now wish to listen through the left side only and challenge yourself to sing along to the backing track without the guidance of a lead instrument. If you’ve been using a ‘With Singer’ recording, you may now wish to purchase a version without the singer to challenge yourself to sing along with less guidance.

To stop the music, return to the app and open any of your purchases via the Purchased Music screen. The playback control bar will reappear and you can use it to stop or pause the music.
  • How do I access my purchases?
Go to the ChoraLine Shop home page. Tap the menu icon in the top left of your screen and select the Purchased Music option from the menu. This screen displays all the ChoraLine recordings you’ve purchased through the app. Tap the recording you’d like to play. The next screen shows all the individual tracks within that recording. Tap the triangular play icon on the far right of the screen to play a track, or the downward arrow icon to download it to play later. Note: You must be connected to the internet the first time you play a purchase.

Please log in to the app with the email address and password that you use on www.choraline.com. Your previous EasyPlay (mp3) purchases will be listed in the Purchased Music section of the app and available for use at no extra cost.
  • Will my purchases take up storage space on my device?
When you play a purchased track for the first time, it quickly downloads to your device so you can listen without an internet connection. This means your purchases require a small amount of storage space on your device, but you can free up space by removing downloads whenever you like.
  • How do I download purchases?
When you play a purchased track for the first time, it quickly downloads to your device so you can listen without an internet connection. Tracks within a rehearsal recording must be downloaded individually, so make sure you’ve downloaded all the tracks you want to use before going offline. Playing a track will automatically trigger the download, but you can also download tracks without playing them by tapping the downward arrow icon (to the left of the play icon). Downloaded tracks appear in the Downloads section, arranged by choral work. Another way to tell that a track has been successfully downloaded is that the downward arrow icon will no longer be visible in the Purchased Music section.
  • How do I remove downloads from my device?
Go to the Downloads screen (via the main menu) and select the recording you wish to remove. Tap Edit in the top right corner of your screen, and a red circle will appear next to each track. Tap the circle beside the track you wish to delete, and tap Confirm on the message that pops up. Repeat this process for each track you wish to delete. Deleted downloads will no longer be available for offline listening, but you can download them again via the Purchased Music page when you have an internet connection.
  • How can I check what I’ve purchased previously?
The Order History page displays details of every transaction you’ve made through the app. You will also receive an email receipt for each order. Additionally, the Purchased Music screen will always display every recording purchased via this account.
  • How do I practise a section of a piece on repeat?
Click the play icon on the track you wish to hear on repeat, then tap the ‘loop’ icon on the left hand side of the playback control bar that appears at the bottom of your screen. When playback reaches the end of the track, it will start again from the beginning. This will continue until you tap the loop icon again to turn it off and resume normal playback.
  • How do I adjust the speed of the music? Why would I want to?
You can adjust the playback speed of purchased recordings to 0.9x or 0.75x their normal speed, which is great for getting the hang of fast or otherwise tricky sections of a piece. Open the piece you wish to listen to via Purchased Music or Downloads, then tap the ‘cog’ icon in the top right corner of your screen. You can then set Speed to ‘0.75x’, ‘0.9x’, or ‘Normal’. This setting will be remembered and remain active until changed, i.e. if you are listening at 0.75x speed but want to listen to another section or piece at normal speed, you’ll need to tap the cog again and select ‘Normal’.
  • Why does the music sound slower than it should?
This may happen if you’ve previously been listening to another piece at 0.9x or 0.75x speed, because changes to the speed setting will remain in place until changed again. Go to the piece you wish to listen to, tap the ‘cog’ icon in the top right corner of your screen and then select ‘Normal’. You should now be able to play the music at its usual speed.
